Academics & Scheduling
Academics & Scheduling
Planning your classes each year is an important part of your high school journey. The courses students choose help build the foundation for graduation, college and career readiness, and future opportunities. Our goal is to support every student in creating a schedule that reflects their interests, goals, and academic needs.
At Las Plumas High School, students work closely with their counselor to select courses, stay on track for graduation, and explore opportunities that prepare them for life after high school.
Graduation Requirements
Students must complete specific course requirements in areas such as english, math, science, social science, physical education, and electives in order to graduate. These requirements ensure that all students develop a strong academic foundation and are prepared for future success.
Course Selection & Scheduling
Each year, students will select courses based on their grade level, interests, and future plans. When building a schedule, students should:
- Review graduation and A–G requirements
- Consider college and career goals
- Challenge themselves while maintaining balance
Course selection sheets and the course handbook are available to help guide this process.
A–G & College Readiness
Students planning to attend a UC or CSU should complete the A–G course requirements with grades of “C” or better. These courses help ensure students are academically prepared for college-level work and keep post-secondary options open.
Advanced & Dual Enrollment Opportunities
Students may have opportunities to:
- Take advanced or college-level courses
- Participate in dual enrollment programs
- Earn both high school and college credit
These options allow students to challenge themselves and get a head start on college.
Support & Guidance
Counselors are here to help students:
- Create and update a 4-year plan
- Choose appropriate classes each year
- Stay on track for graduation
- Explore college and career pathways
Students and families are encouraged to reach out to their counselor with any questions about scheduling or academic planning.
